Podcast Guest Checklist
Before you join a Studio session with your computer, here are some tips for a seamless recording experience:
Before Recording
- Check our minimum system requirements.
- Ensure a stable internet connection. You can test it here. A wired connection using an Ethernet cable is more reliable than WiFi.
- Use a supported computer browser: Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Please note: you cannot use Incognito/Private mode to record.
- Close other browser tabs and applications, as many as possible — especially any that also use the microphone or camera.
- Temporarily turn off any VPNs, browser extensions, content blockers, or firewalls.
During Recording
- Wear headphones to prevent echo and increase overall audio quality.
- Use an external microphone rather than your computer's built-in mic which picks up more noise. We recommend a wired microphone. However, a wireless microphone or a microphone built into wired headphones is also suitable.
- If possible, record in a space with daylight or with a lamp in front of you. The strongest light should be in front of you, not behind you.
IMPORTANT: Keep in mind that your locally recorded track will be higher quality than what you see and hear during the live call.
When the Recording Stops
- Leave the Riverside browser window open until you see Upload Complete or 100% Uploaded.
How to Join the Podcast Session
You’re almost ready to record with your Host on Riverside. Follow the steps below to join the virtual Studio.
- On a computer, use Chrome or Edge, the supported web browsers.
- To record on a mobile device, download the iOS or Android app.
- Download the Riverside.fm iOS App from the Apple App Store.
- Download the Riverside.fm Android App from the Google Play Store.
Step by Step
- On your computer, click the Join Session button in the event description or click the Join Unconventional Leaders with Heather Parady button below.
- On the Lobby page, enter your name.
- Click to indicate whether you are using headphones.
- If you haven’t used Riverside before, click Request camera permissions under your name so the browser can access your microphone and camera. Then, click Allow.
- Look for the video preview on the right side of the page.
- Use the menus to select mic, camera, and speaker.
- Click Join Studio to join the call.
When the Host starts recording, your computer automatically saves your high-quality audio and video and begins uploading the data to Riverside.
After the recording ends, please leave your browser tab open until you see the Successfully uploaded ✔ confirmation.
