Read what people hate about me—or something I made.

If you’re a creator putting your work out into the world, you’ll encounter things like this. Many people are paralyzed by the fear of starting because they dread comments like the ones below. But here’s the thing: you’ll get used to it—and eventually, most of them will make you laugh (some of these are downright hilarious).

What you’re about to read is 100% true.
No, really.

What some people hate, others love. I move a lot, mispronounce words, and am overly optimistic (as one person so kindly put it, “Corny AF”). Ironically, these are the very reasons some people hire me. They love that I take imperfect action, bring high energy, and speak up—even when I mispronounce words with my Southern accent.

What someone may see as your weakness, I hope you’ll embrace and lean into as a strength.

So, pull up a chair, have a laugh, and learn a little more about my work.

This is so true. I cannot sit still.

One of the reasons I quit being a therapist (my previous career) is that sitting in one spot for a long time makes me fidgety. Plus, when I’m talking about something I’m passionate about… I can’t help but move.

Some people won’t care about what you create. As Seth Godin says, you have to get comfortable with knowing that your work isn’t for everyone. If you struggle with this, I highly recommend his book What to Do When It’s Your Turn. It helped me a ton.

Sometimes, when you create things, people will misunderstand you and say crazy things. You can literally say, “The grass is green,” and they’ll turn it into a political statement.

If you’re a woman, they especially love to pick at that. Expect it. Ignore it. Keep speaking.

 

This comment was accurate. I totally messed up the audio on this one—it only played on one side of the speakers. Annoying.

This video also reached over a million people.

The lesson? You can post imperfect things, and they can still work.

Okay, guilty.

I mispronounce words all the time. But I’m a great communicator.

You don’t have to be perfect. Trust me.

Accurate. I cry in commercials too.

Why he unfollowed me is literally my mission (combining spirituality and art with the tangible).

This is good. When people unfollow or unsubscribe, it means you’re getting clearer on your mission and message. You want messages like this.

What repels some will make others raving fans.

 

Okay, this is one of my favorite comments. My jokes are super bad (picking up on the fact that this is one of my biggest complaints?).

At the end of the day, I’m having fun. I want to have fun, and I don’t want everything to be serious. Even if it makes the video feel “less impactful” to some, it’s more honest to who I am.

And that’s all we can do at the end of the day, right?
